Shameful democratic credentials of UPA vis-a-vis a far better NDA record
Never before in the history of India have the
institutions that are key to the successful functioning of democracy
been so blatantly manipulated, co-opted, and devalued by the ruling
class.
How the office of the President has been devalued
Who is Pratibha Patil? She is allegedly a cooperative bank fraudster,
and has been made the president not for her erudition and independent
thinking. She is there because she has always been a loyalist, a ji
huzuria, and a rubber stamp. It has been amply proved by the way she
has endorsed every misdeed of the UPA government with extraordinary
alacrity. She is worse than Giani Jail Singh. He still had guts and at
some point of time thought of dismissing the Bofors-tainted government
of Rajeev Gandhi. Prateebha Patil reports directly to Sonia Gandhi, who
is her Geeta, Bible, Quran, and the Constitution of India.
How the highest judiciary has been made an arm of the Congress Party
The Supreme Court judges, including our Chief Justice Mr. Balakrishnan,
have very little integrity and credibility left. They have been
delivering madcap judicial pronouncements. The recent one is on the
suspension of Sanjay Dutt’s conviction where the Chief Justice goes to
great lengths in praising the illustrious Dutt family and the acting
prowess of Sanju Baba. It sounds as if Justice Balakrishnan was a
regular invitee to Sanju Baba’s birthday parties. It also declares that
Sanju Baba is no more a TADA accused. Why? The CBI is not going to
challenge the bad order of the Mumbai TADA court or what? Even earlier,
the judgment to grant bail to this friend of Dawood and Chota Shakeel
was a dubious one, delivered to please the Italian queen of 10 Janpath.
Don’t we know how Priya Dutt lobbied with Sonia to have her brother
released on bail? The 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast case has been diluted
beyond recognition because of Sanjay Dutt. Honest judges and
prosecutors have been taken off the case to make things easier for him.
Sunil Dutt staked his all to save his wayward son. The Supreme Court
judges have also gone overboard and beyond their brief in setting up
special courts and SIT in Gujarat riot cases. They have been in
collusion with the Congress party to fix Modi. They succeeded because
Modi capitulated. He had very little room since he did not want to give
any excuse to the UPA to dismiss his government. He can resist the
biased attitude of the Supreme Court now. He should have taken a firm
stand in the Kodnani case. Kodnani’s bail was cancelled by a High Court
judge who was obviously doing the bidding of the Congress party. The
language of his verdict is a clear indication of that. The idiot
compares communal riots with terrorist attacks. Modi should have dared
the UPA to dismiss his government. Not doing so is a strategic error.
Look at the contempt with which the Marxists treat the Supreme Court
and its judges. And I think they deserve to be treated that way. There
is nothing honorable about them since they also act as the stooges of
the ruling dispensation.
The Election Commission
The Congress party has made sure to appoint its favorite bureaucrats as
Election Commissioners since the beginning. Barring a few exceptions,
every Election Commissioner joins the party after his retirement. The
approach of NDA was different since it really believed in appointing
men of integrity to such important constitutional positions, following
a transparent process. The integrity of the Election Commission stands
compromised today by the appointment of minions of the Nehru-Gandhi
durbar. This is a dangerous development in these times. This
institution should not have been interfered with. However, the Congress
Party and Sonia Gandhi cannot understand this since they think
manipulating the democratic process is no big deal.
The Parliament
Nehru did not really bother about the Parliament since he had a brute
majority. He never considered it more than a kind of a debating society
where netas in khaddar kurtas and Gandhi topis delivered colorful and
flowery speeches. His daughter Indira Gandhi also treated it with
benevolent disdain, so did her son Rajeev Gandhi. Narsimha Rao went
still further. He bought MPs to survive a vote of no-confidence and run
a minority government. Sonia and Manmohan crossed all limits when they
won a vote of confidence after the Left ditched them over the Nuke
issue. They lied to the Parliament and kept it out of the loop on
critical Government decisions. The record of NDA was far better.
Vajpayee did not stoop down to buy MPs when his government lost by a
single vote in his second term as the PM. He could have, but that would
have meant compromising the dignity and stature of the Parliament. The
NDA respected the Parliament and shared every government decision with
it.
The Governor’s office
This institution has been most abused and misused by the UPA to
dismiss, and browbeat opposition governments in different states. The
UPA has done it shamelessly. It was done in Jharkhand, Karnataka, Goa,
Arunachal Pradesh, and most recently in Meghalay. If the Opposition did
not win an election with a resounding majority, the Governors waited
till the Congress party could buy and manipulate a majority using all
kinds of underhand methods to form a government. The NDA record was
exemplary in this respect, barring one case, i.e., of Bihar, when
Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the CM by the Governor with the contention
that he was the leader of the single largest pre-poll alliance. The
governor used the Bommai case as an example. And it was not so blatant
a misuse.
The Congress Bureau of Investigation or the CBI and other institutions
The CBI acts as an extension of Sonia’s cabal. This is open knowledge.
It is used to harass political opponents and grant special favors to
allies to keep them happy. The biggest beneficiary of this is the
mahacorrupt Lalu Yaadav. All the corruption cases against him were
dropped by the CBI since he was the most trusted ally of Sonia Madam.
The whole nation knows how Ottavio Quattrocchi was allowed to get away
by the CBI at the behest of Sonia. Shibu Soren was also saved by the
CBI, so was Sanjay Dutt. Most recently, the CBI has given a clean chit
to Jagdish Tytler. The CBI is also used as a handy tool to
blackmail or do favours for wily politicians like Lalu, Mayavati, and
Mulayam. Likewise, the Congress Party uses the Direct Tax department
(Income Tax) to appease its corrupt allies and help those who are close
to Madam Sonia. Those who do not fall in line with the party’s diktat
are harassed and hounded.
The Media
Those who fervently want Sonia to be in power, the Church and the
western powers, control the entire media space today. The NDA also has
to fight the media in these elections, especially the Anglo-Indian
media. You are advised to see through the blatant bias of NDTV, IBN 7,
Aaj Tak, the Times of India, the Indian Express, the Hindustan Times,
and others. Many journalists, columnists, and media commentators are on
the regular payroll of the Congress Party. It is a complex web,
created with great care, to serve the corrupt ruling establishment.
Look at the coverage of the media of Election 2009; it is designed to
serve the Congress cause.
These are but a few examples. The
Congress Party has always used every government institution to serve
its political cause without moral qualms. It has been authoritarian and
autocratic since its birth. It has always been run by a cabal that is
led by a few autocrats and followed by sycophants.
It
is the same party that silenced great leaders like Tilak, and Lajpat
Rai just because they wanted to take a tough line against the British
over the Swadeshi Movement of West Bengal. It mistreated and forced
Subhash Chandra Bose out since he challenged its ruling cabal. India
would have gained independence much earlier but for the mediocre
leadership of the Congress.
It
is the curse of Indian politics and the fountainhead of every malaise
our political system suffers from. It nurtures, promotes, and
propagates mediocrity and corruption. If we really have to grow
holistically, this party must be consigned to the dustbin of history.
