Saveeta Devi vs. Saira Bano or Serena
True Justice vs. Minority Appeasement


Varun Gandhi allegedly spoke about it in his Pilibhit speech. If your name is Saveeta Devi, you may never get justice. Change it to Saira Bano and see how the state machinery is activated to help you.

Do you understand now that Varun Gandhi was simply stating the naked truth in his alleged ‘hate speech’? This is the state of our polity today. The establishment invariably treats Saveeta Devi as a second-rate citizen. Saira and Sarah are preferred customers of the secular state. And we know why. It is blatant appeasement of Muslims and other minorities for electoral considerations.


Every so-called secular formation is competing vigorously for Muslim votes. Why? Because the majority community, the Hindus, stands divided on caste lines and any attempt to unite it is promptly termed as communal. Those who vote on caste basis tend to forget the fact that they too come second for their leaders. If it is a choice between Saira Bano, and Saveeta Yaadav (or Saveeta Ram, or Saveeta Shukla), their caste and clan leaders will choose Saira for their special favors.

A secular friend of mine had stayed in a seaside building in Mumbai’s Versova area for many years. A few years ago he had to shift from that building. Why? Over a period, the community composition of the building had changed. A majority of them were Muslims and they dominated the managing committee of the society. And the committee decided to offer its premises for ‘a mass goat sacrifice’ on Bakareed Day. My friend’s wife is a vegetarian, being a South Indian. The sight of goats being butchered openly in the building’s premises with typical religious fanfare revolted her. Next year she started a campaign to stop the mayhem. The Muslim-dominated committee did not relent. The administration refused to intervene in the matter. Finally, my secular friend had no option but to sell his flat and move out. Suppose it was a society dominated by Hindus, and some Muslim or Christian resident complained of too much of noise during Ganesh Pooja, what would have the Indian courts and the administration done? Every applicable law would have been enforced in letter and spirit to please the complainant. They do it all the time. Don’t you see how Hindu celebrations and festivals are subjected to all kinds of administrative restrictions? But is it a big issue? Yes. It is. It is a pattern that is followed with great regularity and has grave political and strategic consequences. (I will elaborate on this in the next article.)

Take the case of Sadhvi Pragya and Major Purohit, both accused of the Malegaon bomb blasts in front of the office of SIMI, an organization declared as anti-national. They were booked under a law like MACOCA, which is generally used when the investigative machinery has no clear evidence and yet wants to keep the accused behind bars for a longer time. They were mistreated, tortured, and a number of Narco tests were performed on them. Compare it with how the government and the Indian courts treat Jehadi terrorists and Muslim criminals like Abu Salem. They are asked by our judges if the quality of food they have is good enough or not. Every attempt is made to make their stay in jail comfortable. The judges release them at the first available opportunity and the POTA and TADA review committees are quick to provide relief to them.

Now let us look at how the UPA government has handled the major terrorism-related cases in the last five years.

93 Mumbai Bomb Blast Case

Most of the convicts will be out of jail in a year. Others who have got longer sentences are out on bail thanks to a bizarre Supreme Court verdict whereby Sanjay Dutt was granted bail. Neither the Maharashtra Government nor the Central Government cares if the perpetrators of the biggest terror act in the history of the world are punished or not. The CBI and the TADA court judge treated it as a normal criminal case and allowed the conspirators and killers to get away with mild punishments. Each one of them should have been hanged or put behind bars forever for waging a war against the Indian state. Every effort was made to weaken and dilute the case. Now, we will have a situation where the killers and plotters of the crime will soon be walking free on Mumbai streets. One of them has already become a big-time Samajwadi Party leader.  

Mumbai Local Blasts

Nothing is happening. The accused have been delaying the case with all kinds of demands and the court and prosecution have been extending them extraordinary courtesies.

Indian Mujahidin Attacks

Nothing has been done. Had it not been for the intense and coordinated investigations of Gujarat and other BJP State Governments, nothing would have happened. A whole lot of IM operatives are yet to be apprehended. However, the media and the UPA government have already killed the story. From Congress to Mulayam and Lalu and Mayavati, they have all done their best to stall the investigations after having seen the Muslim reaction to the Batala House encounter. The IM men are being defended with funds provided by the Jamila Milia University.

This is the best example of how the UPA looks at these Jihadi attacks. Nothing is being done except an exchange of blank verbal fusillades with Pakistan. The Pakistani butcher is being paraded around as a prized catch. He also seems to be enjoying his stay in an Indian jail. The Jihadis will be laughing their heads off at this idiocy of the Indian judiciary and the prosecutors. He is being treated even better than the way the Americans treated Saddam Hussein. He should have been swiftly tried and hanged. It does not seem to happen. A 5000-page long charge sheet has been filed against a guy who openly killed so many Indians, watched by the whole world. What can be a greater joke than this?  The Prime Minister is more sympathetic to the pain of Pakistan than that of India. I think this is the time for the candle protestors and SMS activists to do something. They should work hard at defeating the UPA if they want the scourge of terrorism to be countered effectively. If they really care for the lives of Indians, they should not sit idle and must not be swayed by the Islamist and secularist propaganda aimed at confusing the electorate.
