Rajesh Kumar Singh
 

Rajesh Kumar Singh is an actor, writer, director, and producer of TV programmes and films. He was born in Ballia, a small town in Uttar Pradesh, India. His early schooling took place in Ballia. Later, he did his graduation in commerce and post graduation in management studies from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, India. He was a prominent student activist during his college and university days. He was associated with one of the most important student movements of independent India led by the late Jaiprakash Narayan. It was known as the ‘Total Revolution’ movement. It led to the imposition of internal emergency in 1975.

He started his career as a marketing specialist, while working with the leading paper manufacturing and marketing company of India. He shifted his base to Bombay, now known as Mumbai, in 1982. He got involved with amateur theater of the city while working with various advertising firms. He acted in a number of plays and adapted one of the Kafka stories into a play titled 'Ek Kutte Ki Jaanch Padtal'. He produced, and directed it too. In 1984, he left his job and joined an NGO that  was involved in various social service projects in different parts of the country, from Kanyakumari to Arunachal Pradesh. His involvement with serious film making started there. He wrote and directed many documentaries on the activities of the organization. This involved extensive touring all over India.

He returned to Mumbai in 1988 and joined the biggest amusement facility of Southeast Asia. He worked in various capacities looking after functions like marketing, publishing, communications, general management of the amusement park, and its arts & entertainment activities.

He started his own communications and creative consulting firm called Vyoma Communications later.  He got very deeply involved with the development of TV programs. He was associated with a number of path breaking TV projects of India. He supervised the production of the first sponsored TV program of India called Modella Ghazal Programme. He developed and wrote the first daily soap of India called Shanti. He also wrote and conceptualized Metro Dhamaka, the first game show of India to be telecast on DD Metro Channel. He adapted a Disney Cartoon Series in Hindi called Tale Spin which was telecast on Doordarshan, India's national television network. This was the first ever Disney Cartoon to have been adapted in Hindi. He produced, wrote, and directed a TV series called Naya Zamana that was telecast at prime time on the number one satellite channel of India ZEE TV. Laxmi is his first video feature as a producer, writer, and director. Currently, he is working independently on a number of path breaking film projects that are in various stages of production. They include 'Usne Aisa Kyon Kiya?', 'Diana, Dodi, & Charles', ' Daman & Reema', and 'Babu Bachha Singh Balliatic'.

He is also an actor and a playwright and has had a long association with the Hindi and Englsih theatre of Mumbai. He also writes regularly for the free expression web site www.khullamkhulla.net.
