Why cannot Vajpayee sing a song?
While the country burns, Vajpayee writes some cheap poetry. This is really pathetic, using poetry as a predictable public relations gimmick. Vajpayee's obsession with his image is turning more and more ridiculous. It rivals that of another ridiculous figure - Rajesh Khanna.
In the joint session of the parliament on the POTA issue, Vajpayee harped on the same old theme: 'None has ever called me immoral'; 'none has questioned my integrity in my long political life'.
What is going on? The 'me first' philosophy of the PM has already destroyed his party. Once out of power, his image will not be worth pig shit. So, why is he so jealously defending his image? Is he dreaming of staging a comeback?
Question: What is the height of senility and stupidity?
Answer: Vajpayee dreaming of staging a comeback.'Geet Nahin Gaata Hoon' is an attempt to distance himself from the misdeeds of his government. His earlier poetry had pronounced confidently,' Haar Nahin Manoonga, Raar Nahin Thanoonga ( I won't accept defeat, I won't pick up a fight either)'. It was a strange and mindless line. Unless you pick up a fight, where is the question of accepting or not accepting defeat.
Why is Vajpayee averse to a fight? Why has he always followed the path of least resistance? Simply because he is an incompetent leader who never had a comprehensive vision of the direction the country should take. He has never been driven by definite convictions. In his earlier days, his famed oratory consisted of same old jokes and gags, delivered in a flowery language with no real content, repeated in meetings after meetings, years after years, applauded enthusiastically by loyal Sangh workers who worked their asses off to build up his popular image.
He contributed nothing to various political movements in the post independence period. He succeeded in creating an illusion or 'image' of a leader. Without this image, Vajpayee is nothing.
In post Indira era the whole country readily accepted Rajiv as a leader and Nehru-Gandhi family was expected to rule for the next fifty years. After having been comprehensively defeated and sent into a political hibernation by Rajiv Gandhi, Vajpayee turned to cronyism to somehow ensure the continuance of his decadent lifestyle in old age. That was the period when a jobless Vajpayee hobnobbed with the likes of Chadraswamis and Khassogis and also took to drinking as an important social more. Vajpayee was least bothered about the BJP. He was rarely available to the party. He could not think of any grand idea to revive the bleak fortunes of the party. For a brief period, he talked about Gandhian socialism without really comprehending what exactly he meant by it. This is why after coming to power he jealously climbed onto the IMF and World Bank wagon as the company of MNC officials in Armani dresses was a lot cozier than that of Gandhian Socialists in their coarse Khaddar Dhoti Kurtas.
However, the image helped him win the final race within the party. While party workers toiled hard to bring the BJP to a position where it could take a go at the Delhi throne, Vajpayee kept a low profile. He kept away from Ramjanmbhoomi movement. He had nothing to give to the country or his party. Even inside the Parliament, he hardly opened his mouth. Through this period of non relevance, he was working towards building and reinforcing his image of a moderate politician. A moderate politician in this country is the one who has no conviction.
Vajpayee has remained a man of words alone. He cannot act because to act you need the courage of conviction. Conviction comes out of concern.
And Vajpayee's only concern is his image.
While visiting one of the Relief camps in Ahmedabad, Vajpayee gave a long wordy speech. Though the media was moved by it, none else was. The riots continue in Ahmedabad. Comman Indians across the length and breadth of the country know by now that this PM is merely a man of words and not deeds. Vajpayee cannot get truly emotional about anything else except when his image is under attack. Death of Indians in terrorist attacks, brutal burning of innocent people, suicides by poor farmers, dispair of common Indians, all these things cannot bring tears to Vajpayee's eyes.
'Geet Nahin Gaata Hoon' is the latest. His cheap self obsessive poetry is a tell tale evidence of a senile and defunct brain. We did not hear him recite poems when Bhuj and Kargil happened. The poet in him did not react over Godhra and Ahmedabad. He reacted only when the PM's advisors felt the need for a correction in his image projection.
What do you say to a PM who defends his personal image more jealously than his country and her people?
Vanish man, vanish! Spare us for God's sake!
