Why the peace pigeons are so much hated in Gujarat?
People don't want to hear of 'Hindu Muslim Bhai Bhai' slogans in Gujarat.
The much touted 'Insaniyat' theory of the secularists finds no takers in the land of Gandhi.
One cannot even put up a poster calling for communal amity on the walls of Ahmedabad city.
The peace pigeons and the secularists are the most hated lot in Gujarat today. Some of them are so hardheaded and self-righteous that they may take it as a confirmation that they are following the right path. This is an old problem with PPs and the secularists. They lack the capacity to look within and analyze the things objectively. They are self-centered, elitist, and far removed from ground realities.
They always live outside the community, mostly looking down at it. They react strongly only when their peaceful and decadent lifestyles are threatened. They speak from politically correct and media worthy points of view.
It does not work in a situation like Gujarat. The spuriousness of slogans like 'Hindu Muslim Bhai Bhai' is quite evident here. A Hindu knows that he is going to get stabbed or burnt alive if he ventures in a Muslim area. Likewise, a Muslim also knows that he will meet the same fate in a Hindu locality. Both the communities have to work out their strategies for survival. Those who are attacked and beaten have to retaliate as a counterbalancing measure in an area where they are strong. It is a war fueled by the fear of humiliation at the hands of opponents. And like any war, all sort of people with various motivations get involved into it.
The PPs and the secularists try to run away from this reality. They don't recognize the real fears and motivations of the participants in this war. They issue mindless condemnations. They foolishly support a side out of their need to be politically correct. In the process, they also loose their sense of objectivity.
This irritates and infuriates the people who are bearing the brunt of a communal conflagration, mentally and physically. They feel as if they are being talked down to by a bunch of smart asses who know nothing about what is going on. They somehow tolerated the PPs earlier. Now they don't. They tell the PPs to stop their 'Guturgoon'. They also beat them up at times.
Who is to be blamed for this? Certainly the PPs and the secularists, who by their one sided views, due to various agendas they have in their heads, have destroyed their credibility and have rendered themselves useless.
Many of them are gutless. They will see a crowd and run for their lives. How many of these PPs dared to stop rioters from burning people alive? How many of them came out on the streets when the worst was happening? None. They could only be seen on TV.
The PPs among the media beware
There are some guys in the media who don the mantle of PPs with great zeal. Somehow, their reportage is perceived as pro minority by some people. There are reasons for such perception. Suppose a Hindu is killed by a Muslim. The matter will be reported as 'one person from a community was stabbed to death'. On the other hand if the victim is a Muslim it will be reported as 'a Muslim was stabbed to death by a marauding mob of rioters'. They present a picture as if the Muslims are hapless victims and they have nothing to do with violence. In a riot everyone is communally polarized. What matters is the numerical superiority. Wherever, whichever community is numerically strong it goes all out to screw the happiness of other community in every possible way.
Many of those who are so enthusiastically interviewed by the TV media and who sound as if they want only peace, get down to preparing petrol and acid bulbs as soon as they see the backs of the media guys. Even the 'innocent class', women, children, and rickety old men, are willing participants in the war effort. And who are the heroes of these moments? The much despised lumpen elements who are perceived as true saviors by their respective communities.
The PPs in media, TV media in particular, fail to understand the biggest reality of a communally polarized society. All are victims in this situation, Hindus as well as Muslims. Those who are propagating the idea that only the Muslims are the victims of Gujarat riots, are unthinking fools with a blinkered vision. If they think they can assuage the hurt sentiments of a community by doing so they are patently wrong. In fact, they are preparing the grounds for an incident like the 'Mumbai Bomb Blasts'.
It is the PPs of media who have been counting the numbers of Muslims victims of riot. We rarely get to read reports of Hindus who have died or have lost their properties. All this 'half truth' reportage has created great resentment among Hindus. They are justifiably seething with anger over the one-sidedness of media reports. That is the reason there is no sympathy for PPs and the secularists in Gujarat. Even the PPs have realized their precarious state.
They are like dogs running for cover, with their tails between their legs.
However, the PPs outside Gujarat are going full blast. They have not yet realized the intensity of the anger of people in Gujarat. Demands for Modi's ouster are being made. The fact is if there are elections in Gujarat today, Modi will sweep the polls. The Congress will be completely decimated. If Modi recommends dissolution of the assembly and Gujarat actually goes for a poll, it will be an appropriate step to take from a democratic viewpoint. Why should Modi listen to Anil Dharkar or Sonia Gandhi or Mamata Banerjee or Vajpayee? Why should he resign? He is not elected by these people. He is elected democratically by the people of Gujarat. He should better go back to them and re-seek their mandate. The PPs may start blaming him for taking advantage of the situation. This is what democracy is all about, cashing in on your advantages. And if it is advantage Modi, the PPs and the secularists should blame themselves for it. It is their continuing tirade against Modi and one sided views that are helping him consolidate his vote bank of Hindus.
What happens to the question of justice? None bothers about it, neither Modi nor Sonia Gandhi nor Anil Dharkar. All of them are going around looking for the back of another, waiting for an opportune moment to grind their blood thirsty axes.
They are all murderers. These suave, cold blooded, self serving bastards are worse than the hot headed lumpen who went about burning people alive in Godhra and Ahmedabad in a communal frenzy.
