Petticoat Reservation in ParliamentWhile talking about the gender based reservation in the parliament, let us not forget the eunuchs. What is the percentage of Indian population in this category? May be point one percent. Who knows? Is there some census data available on this? We should be able to reserve at least one parliamentary seat for this section of society.
The neuter gender is the worst sufferer of gender discrimination. They have been ignored and humiliated since time immemorial. Even the great warriors among them were not considered worthy of a fight. Bheeshm refused to fight Shikhandi in Mahabharat war. Petticoats cannot sight one single example where this kind of blatant injustice has been done to them. Even Drauapdi’s fate was not as bad as Shikhnadi’s. She finally succeeded in avenging her humiliation in the death of Dushashan and Duryodhan and the rest of the Kauravs. She could have her blood bath thanks to chivalrous men like Bheem and Arjun. I think, the principle of ‘reservation for social justice’ should first be applied to the neuter gender. How is it that nobody is talking about them? They seem to have been eternally condemned to a life of use, abuse and indifference.
Petticoats cannot be ignored and they know it. They are crying hoarse. They want reservation in parliament. Dhotis and trousers have also agreed in principle to grant it. The passage of the women’s reservation bill is being blocked by the OBCs, as they want a reservation within this reservation. This too will happen finally. And petticoats will have their reservation, thanks to chivalrous Dhotis and Trousers. The next elections will really be colorful. Indian parliament will be filled with petticoats of all kinds. Dhotis and trousers will have a ball of a time. Who does not like female company?
What will happen to democracy? It will soon be dead. Caste, region and religion based politics has already devoured its innards, the remaining edifice will also crumble. What will be left after this? Blatant lobbyism and mediocre politics. We will also see the ugly face of beutiful Indian Devis. It is strange but true: Politics brings the worst out of Indian women.
We are certainly great people. We tend to adapt to the negative side of the best of the systems very quickly. We are already giving a live demo to the rest of the world of what democracy should not be like. And we are not even ashamed of it. Look at the visual at the top and the enthusiasm with which the likes of Shabana, Jaya, and the rest are demonstrating. They seem to be enjoying it thoroughly, unmindful of the fact that partisan politics and lobbying strike at the very root of democracy. They turn it into a farce. They sow the seeds of divisiveness and deceit where people care not for truth but for their partisan interests. It brings the entire struggle of humanity to create a social structure based on justice, equality and freedom to a big zero.
The principle of social justice turns into a dangerous and destructive trap when applied in as mindless a manner as we have done. It does not stop injustice and exploitation. It perpetuates it as the exploited of yesterday become exploiters of today. And it is not mere theory, it’s the hard core ground reality.
What was the mindset that led to social inequity and exploitation of a section of people? There was a section that wanted to corner everything for itself. This section threw all caution and sense of morality to winds and carried on in its task in an inhumane way. And look at what is being done today? Instead of fighting this dangerous mindset, we are propagating and encouraging it. How thoughtless and immature can we be?
