Mumbai and Delhi terrorist attacks – Why cannot we see the obvious?
Why are we blind to the obvious reality -- the Congress party is deliberately stalling the probes in these terrorist acts to serve its political objectives. They don’t want the police to go after the Indian Mujahidin. In the National Integration Council (NIC) meet in Delhi, the PM advised caution to the police and asked it to be sensitive to the feelings of the minority community, viz., the Muslims. The fact that he dared to do it within a few days of a blast that took 12 lives, and maimed many, is extremely shocking, and should come as an eye-opener. It shows his overwhelming concern for the party’s vote bank that overrides the urgent need to punish the killers of innocent Indian citizens. IM seems to be his foremost vote bank.
What would a true leader or a CEO tell his subordinates when faced with a life or death crisis? What did Bush tell the CIA and his military commanders after the 9/11 attacks? He did not tell them to follow the human rights conventions. He told them to go and get Al Quida and everyone who harboured them, whatever the cost. That is a clear brief that sets forth the operational objectives in definite terms.
And the orders of the American President were followed. His military commanders, CIA, and the rest of his administration found ways to achieve those objectives. If they could not interrogate the key suspects using third degree in the US territory, they took them to black and blind spots and places like Guantanamo Bay and extracted every bit of information about Al Quida plots, conspiracies, and network. That is how you deal with your enemy.
That is how the Mumbai Bomb Blasts of 1993 were investigated and solved by the same Rakesh Maria who heads the Mumbai ATS today. He is not able to deliver results now because the Government of India and its Home Minister and the Maharashtra government bind the hands of our good officers with inhibiting conditions and caveats. They cannot touch Muslims, and cannot use certain methods to extract life-saving information. They cannot even use strong laws like NSA and MACOCA because the leaders of Muslim community don’t like it.
If you are not aware, let me tell you that investigations into the Mumbai serial blasts of 13/7, which has so far killed 30 Indian civilians, have come to a complete halt after one of the suspects who was picked up for questioning died of an old heart condition and Muslim leaders raised a big hue and cry over it. Even the media has killed the issue. And it is done deliberately, as part of a stratagem that aims at blunting the initial outrage and anger of the people and then obliterating the news completely. A terrorist strike used to be played out for a few weeks by the media, now it is a hot issue for a few days only. Earlier, secularists like Javed Akhtar would begin singing ‘Ishwar – Allah tero naam’ bhajans soon after the reports of a terrorist attack were broadcast on TV, and would take out candlelight marches to prevent any probable Hindu consolidation and backlash.
They don’t care to do it now. The Hindu masses have been over-secularised these days and they believe whatever the media tells them. Not only the Hindu masses, even the erstwhile Hindutva icons for some strange reasons have started playing down these terrorist attacks. Look at what Advani did within two days of the Delhi blasts. He announced his anti-corruption yatra and helped push the Delhi blast away from the daily agenda of news TV channels. He did not even have the wisdom to link the internal security issue with his yatra.
There is something seriously wrong with him. How could he forget the victims of the blast like this? He had been to the hospitals and must have felt the pain and deep sadness of people who had lost their near and dear ones, and met the decapitated injured. Didn’t his blood boil after having witnessed the horror of it all? He should have at least issued a statement to his state governments to go after the perpetrators of the blast, using their police machinery. He did not do it. There is just one reason for it. He wants to shed his image of a hardliner. Even he, just like the Congress leaders, believes that Muslims will get upset if he comes out too strongly against the Indian Mujahideens and that may put pressure on BJP’s allies like the JD (U) and prospective ones like the BJD to distance themselves from his prime ministerial campaign.
Why was the Congress not willing to investigate the involvement of local Muslims in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks? Why was it not interested in getting Headley to India as revealed in the secret US diplomatic cables published by Wikileaks? Prompted, coerced, and blackmailed by the opinion leaders of the Muslim community and a section of rabid secularists, it wants to keep a lid over the divisive, dangerous, and destructive designs of home-grown Indian terrorists. It has been courting Muslims with great zeal and enthusiasm to wean them away from Mulayam and Mayavati. This may help it emerge as a frontrunner in the UP elections that have become critical to the anointment of the crown prince, the duffer, to the throne of India.
Are you aware that there is no policing in predominantly Muslim localities? There is no rule of the law there. You won’t even find the ubiquities traffic policemen in these areas and they are beyond the purview of the local Municipal Corporation rules. A law enforcer thinks two hundred times before entering a Muslim mohalla and catching a Muslim goon. Let me give you an example of Mumbai. Nakabandi is a big headache for the average Mumbaikars.
Their frequency has increased since Chidambaram has become the nation’s ‘khanapuri’ Home Minister. His ministry simply passes on every news about terrorists, actionable or non-actionable, to various state governments as a matter of routine to keep the records straight so that he can inform the Parliament that the states were warned of the terrorist plots but they failed to act. Now, a strategy that was meant to corner someone like Modi, boomerangs on Chidambaram when terrorists strike in Delhi, his own backyard. Look at the gall or gullibility of this HM; he still goes ahead and blames the Delhi police. That is the kind of leader he is -- passing on the blame to his subordinates to save his skin. What a pen and paper-pusher HM we have? All his ‘systems’ are designed to play and win a ‘pass-the-buck’ or ‘musical chair’ game in which he is always an unblemished winner.
When Chidambaram sends an advisory to the Mumbai police, the latter does not know what to do. It cannot lay its hands on Islamist goons as that may harm the electoral prospects and arithmetic of the ruling class. The only demonstrable action the police can take is to set up those absurd nakabandis. The policemen put up barricades, and stand disinterestedly there with their ‘dandas’ to deal with ‘dreaded terrorists.’ They too are quite fed up of this useless rigmarole. Now, here is the big revelation. You will rarely find a nakabandi in a predominantly Muslim area. The Congress government in the state, more so in Mumbai, can inconvenience the rest of the citizenry, but not our Musalmaan bhais.
The Muslim leaders have yet another demand to be fulfilled before they throw their lot behind the party on a wholesale basis. They want Narendra Modi’s head to be presented to them on a platter to feel sufficiently appeased. Even that will be done. The multipronged process of entrapping the great warrior of Gujarat has almost reached its final stages. The pliable Supreme Court judges like Arijit Pasayat, the servile state Governors, the foxy social activists and secularists, the media, and the renegade police officers and bureaucrats have been on the job for the last seven years. Modi has been fending these marauders off with all his might, but he will be tired now, with hardly any support coming from the inept BJP leaders in Delhi.
It was Modi who had led the charge against IM after the Ahmedabad serial blasts, which resulted in the unearthing of the hidden modules of the outfit across India, since the Police in other states was also forced to perform. The leads from Gujarat were critical to the success of those investigations. This Batala house encounter was the culmination of that process. Modi did it in spite of his truncated police force. Some of the most effective officers of the Gujarat police were already sent to jail by the unprecedentedly over-zealous Supreme Court judges who wanted to end the scourge of police encounters so much that they were willing to lend their patient ears to even a distant relative of a slain terrorist (Ishrat Jahan) or an underworld goon (Sohrabuddin). They would, without delay, initiate investigations under their supervision against the Gujarat government. Surprisingly, all these unending investigations are solely aimed at discovering Modi’s link with these encounters somehow or the other, evident in the way they go on and on and probably will not see a closure till Modi is arraigned.
Ishrat Jahan’s 2004 encounter is quite revealing. Who was Ishrat Jahan? As admitted by David Headley, she was a LeT fidayeen, a suicide bomber, entrusted with the task of killing Modi. Her death was mourned by the entire spectrum of a close-knit network of Muslim politicians. After years of her death by encounter, some Supreme Court judges, in collusion with Delhi’s ruling establishment, decided to finish her unfinished agenda by getting at Modi. They are working at it with the premise that Modi is guilty, and what needs to be done is to unearth some prosecutable evidence from wherever possible to send him to jail.
Though the Congress government is devious enough to fix its political opponents using every possible foul than fair means and methods, it suffers from a strange inadequacy when dealing with Islamist terrorism.
Why should Indian Muslims sympathise with IM? If they are part of the socio-cultural-political mainstream, they must not. They should share the trials and tribulations of other Indians and should hate and repudiate the IM. They would do it ordinarily but they are left with no other option when the political class presupposes them to be the sympathisers of these elements and shows its willingness to condone acts like a bomb blast for their votes. That is when the community leaders come forward and start negotiating for concessions.
The IM operatives get greater room to manoeuvre and spread their wings and organisational network among an emboldened and belligerent youth of the community in safe havens like UP, Kerala, West Bengal, and the states ruled by the Congress and the other parties that need Muslim votes to win elections.
The most dangerous fallout of this scenario is that it naturally creates a symbiotic relationship between Jihadi terrorists, the Muslim community, and its leaders. They find it more advantageous to stay away from mainstream Indian society than join it. Why would anybody like to abandon his/her VIP status and become an ordinary Indian citizen, like all those kafirs known as Hindus? Now that Sonia’s National Advisory Council (NAC) wants to upgrade the Muslims and the other minority groups to Super VVVIP status with its proposed Anti-communal Violence Bill, all possibilities of bringing them into the mainstream are lost. They will now be officially elevated to the position of ‘untouchables’, those who are beyond the pale of Indian laws and its law-enforcement agencies, free to do whatever they want.
If some of them decide to use their freedom to plant bombs in public places, maim, and kill Indian citizens, and wage a war of attrition within our national boundaries, who should be blamed? Chidambaram of course will not accept any blame. The media is forever pure and blameless. So, who should be blamed? Who else but Narendra Modi, the Gujaratis of the world, Advani, and the RSS.
And as we all know the biggest threat to our nation comes from ‘saffron terror’ as expounded by the crown prince of the Congress party since ‘green’ is the colour of peace.
What does ‘saffron’ signify? Sacrifice. It is so apt and applicable to the current state of affairs. Blessed are those who discover virtue in being treated as sacrificial lambs and put their heads at the altar of Jihadi terrorism and the vote bank politics of the Congress party without a whimper.
