The King of Indifilm comedy stays true to his style and genre
'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi' is a signature film by David Dhavan.
David Dhavan is the only surviving filmmaker of our country who remains true to his style and genre. Bina hat ke hi Hats off to him. Surprisingly and sadly, we don't include him in the list of various awardees.
David Dhavan plays around with film technique and makes it sub-servient to his cause - twisting, turning, mutilating, moulding, and even annihilating it to suit his production budget and style of storytelling. He proves the triviality of technique. David Dhavan technique ka ghulaam nahi, technique uski ghulaam hai. He knows what matters to his audience. He is out to make them laugh and he does it with gay abandon and freedom.

He also gets tired towards the end of the shooting schedule it seems. He must be leaving the last 30 minutes of the film script to be developed later. That is why the best of the gags in his films are introduced in the first half. There are some very interesting seemingly* original gags in MSK that generate genuine mirth. The film turns out be a bore towards the last 30 minutes. 'Is ki saari hava nikal jaati hai aur log pak jaate hain'.
MSK is not his best film. His best was undoubtedly Coolie No.1. You can watch this film any number of times and you won't get bored of it. However, MSK is worth a single visit to the hall. The best honour we can bestow upon thismaster filmmaker, entertainer, and the undisputed king of comedy, is to watch his films and laugh heartily at those genuine or borrowed or stolen gags.
Jug Jug jiyo David.
* One does not know about their original source. They are genuinely Indian situations though.
