Khullamkhulla bows to the genius of David Dhavan
‘Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya’ is one of
his better filmsHe is a true filmmaker and a great storyteller. He can make film audiences eat from his palm like pet puppies as he really cares for them, loves them, and works hard to make them happy. He does not cheat them. He has total command over his art and craft and can create comedy out of nothing. This is what life is all about. It comes out of and goes back into nothing after having given us some really magical, beautiful, heartwarming, and fun filled moments.
David Dhavan is undoubtedly one of the all-time great directors of Indian cinema. He has developed his own genre and he proves his prowess in MPKK yet again. It is a better film than Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. It is nearly as perfect as Coolie No.1 and those who consider themselves intelligent will also enjoy some of the fantastic stuff here. The film also unearths the vulnerable side of Sushmita Sen. It is a big break for her from ‘mother-superior’ routines she has been doing in films after films. This is what a great director does to his actors. He discovers their true potential and makes them beautiful.

DD deserves critical acclaim and awards more than the Yash Chopras, Madhur Bandarkars, and RGVs. MPKK is quite a few notches above the rest of the films that have been released this year so far. This is the kind of cinema, typical Indian stuff with our kind of humour, that may catch the fancy of movie buffs across the globe if promoted with gusto and confidence.
MPKK has unity, integrity, and balance, the hallmarks of great cinema. Nothing is out of place here and hats off to the writers of the film. They have created and collected beautiful gems in the form of truly inspired smart gags and repartees, enacted and spoken with great fluidity and abandon by the actors. Rajpal Yaadav’s physical tomfoolery is mind-boggling. This world-class actor can any day leave Jim Carrey behind gasping for breath under the baton and guidance of competent directors like DD.
Even sexual references are heart-warmingly comical and childlike as usual. Those who tend to frown upon DD’s ‘Sarkay lo Khatiya…’ stuff are sexually unfortunate people. Sex is all about getting a hearty laugh at the end. And if it is not funny, it is no sex. It is either Tantra-Mantra, or a momentary junoon, or a baby making process, or an instant three-minute exercise regime. And as implied in one of the one-liners in MPKK, agenda oriented mind games vitiate life and love unless you have the capacity to find comedy in them too.
These guys must have had great joy and fun during the making of MPKK. Go and watch the movie to partake of this joy and to pay your tributes to a great filmmaker.
And now let me say a few words about those who dared to pull down the posters of the film from cinema halls just because Salman was found linked to the underworld. Gopinath Munde has been the home minister of Maharashtra. The music director Shravan was welcomed in the BJP just before the last Parliamentary elections. Nadeem and Shravan have always been bum chums of the ‘D’ Company. People have seen their photographs with Noora too. Munde must have been aware of this fact and yet it did not stop him from accepting Shravan in his party’s fold. What does it suggest? The concerns of Munde are not real. We have Sanjay Dutt whose involvement with the underworld is so well known. What did Munde do about it while he was the Deputy CM of Maharashtra? Nothing. Why? Because Shiv Sena supremo gave Sanju Baba a clean chit. Why did Thakare do it? Because he was a good friend of the late Sunil Dutt. This proves that nobody is really serious about punishing those who hobnob with the goons because everyone hobnobs with them. Goons are part of the elite and elite is above the law. And if Sanjay Dutt is above the law, so is Salman Khan. Sham concern for such issues is more reprehensible than indifference to them. Munde and Bajrang Dal activists are nothing more than clowns who cannot be taken seriously any more.
