Mumbai's MAMI Film Festival is happening

8th International Film Festival Mumbai 2006 (IFFM-2006) begins on 23 March, and ends on 31st March, 2006. Imax Adlabs, Mumbai, will be the main festival venue. More than 110 films from across the globe will be shown in the festival.

The Festival almost did not happen. Mumbai film buffs should be thankful to the hard work and perseverance of the members of MAMI who include Yash Chopra, Shyama Benegal, Govind Swaroop, Kiran Shantaram, Manmohan Shetty, Sudheer Nandgaonkar and others.

ZEE Cinema's Bharat Ranga too pitched in for the good cause with his main sponsorship of the event. Other ZEE group entities like ZEE Studio, and DNA are also doing their bit. Ranga has assured MAMI that his support will continue for next two years as well. That means 9th MAMI will happen in time.

The festival is organised by MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Imgaes), and co-organised by Y.B.Chavan Pratisthan and NFDC, and supported by the Govt. of Maharashtra. It is the only International Film Festival of this nature in India that is organised wholly through voluntary efforts and support.
