CASTING BRIEF

There are just three characters in this English language experimental feature film, a kind of a black sex-comedy, a triangular story of love, marriage, and heartbreak. It has a whole lot of funny as well as intellectually stimulating stuff. It can be loosely defined as a film of Woody Allen genre.

Diana

She is around 25-28 years of age and an Indian. She is vivacious, sophisticated, and intelligent, speaks English fluently and smokes. There is a bit of Goldie Hawn or Shirley McLain touch about her. She can open up to a stranger without hesitation. She is inhibition free, generous, and generally a warm and very honest human being. She is married to Charles. There is something very childlike about her.

Charles

He is around 28-30 years of age, an Indian and Diana’s husband. He is tall, handsome, and smart but a bit dumb in certain matters. He is a successful businessman and comes from a polished upper class background, the Tony set, and is a typical metrosexual male. He is also a religious person in a freakish and doltish sort of way. He is a smarter, leaner, and lankier version of the late Rajendra Nath, a great Indian comedian, and the brother of the late Prem Nath.

Dodi

He is around 28-30 years of age, an Indian and handsome in Shahrukh Khan sort of way. Street smart and carefree. He sells black tickets, and is full of chutzpah. He is an educated unemployed character. He has the heart of gold. He is the kind who can go up to a woman and tell her she is beautiful, without bothering about his own social status. He too is childlike in a way. He has the best of the lines and has to be a very competent actor.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for really good actors who fit the descriptions given above. They must speak English fluently, and with great ease in everyday speech sort of way. They need not necessarily have long experience but should be ready to give time for intensive readings and rehearsals. It is a low budget film, being made for the festival circuit. The roles are well written and offer a golden opportunity to those who are keen to demonstrate their histrionic prowess. Such roles are rare to come by in the life of an actor.

All the three roles are well balanced and have almost equal footage. The film’s language contains a whole lot of English profanities, four letter words, which are part of the everyday parlance of people in the age group 16-40. Actors should be comfortable with the usage of such words. They should bear in mind that it is a far out, a bit over the top kind of film.

It will be a fifteen-days shooting schedule. We shall be shooting the film in Guerrilla style, and thus cannot afford the paraphernalia and tantrums that go along with stardom. Every member of the team will be treated as an equal.
